Vision and Values

Our Vision

'Love one another as I have loved you' (John 15:12)

Our mission statement to ‘Love one another as I have loved you’ (John 15:12) is at the heart of our school and feeds into all aspects of life here at Grayswood.

As a Christian school, we believe it is important to develop core values by which to live and which help develop spiritual and moral awareness; so we have broken our mission statement down into 6 main values which we expect all members of the school community to model – children, staff, governors, parents and clergy. These values will be explored in depth over the school year, through collective worship, class reflection times and RE lessons.

Children and staff of all faiths and none are welcome at our school and our aims are to promote understanding and tolerance between those of different faith traditions. As well as being rooted in the Christian vision, the values we’ve identified are appreciated by people of other faiths and also people of no faiths.

Our Calendar of Christian Values at Grayswood:

Autumn 1:
Love

Autumn 2:
Kindness

Spring 1:
Respect

Spring 2:
Teamwork

Summer 1:
Perseverance

Summer 2:
Forgiveness

Each half term, we focus on one of these values and teach the children skills that they will need all through life, anchored into the Christian faith through stories and readings from the Bible, poetry, songs and even fables. Children explore these values further during weekly class reflections. We celebrate times when children have demonstrated one of our values towards others, by nominating children for a special award to be given out in our Friday Celebration Assembly.

Collective worship

Collective Worship is carefully planned and centred on our Christian values, with clergy from All Saints’ Church visiting once a week to deliver this message too. Collective Worship also follows the SCARF scheme of study, which links in with our class PSHE and RSHE lessons. These themes are closely illustrated and explored through stories from the Bible. We also visit the Church for regular services throughout the year for festivals such as Harvest, Christmas, Ash Wednesday, Easter, Pentecost and for the end of the year service in the Summer. Our Year 6 class visit Guildford Cathedral in July for a Leavers’ service, with a large number of other Church schools in Surrey.
