Woodpeckers are taught by Mrs Barnes on Mondays and Tuesdays and Mrs Harris on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. We are also supported by Mrs Lines and Mrs Hayden.
This term, our PE days are Mondays and Wednesdays.
We are very excited about our new topic: Kings and Queens and Castles! The children will be introduced to the concept of the monarchy and will begin to look for similarities and differences between the the Queen and her role today, and Kings and Queens from the past, such as Queen Victoria, King Charles I and Henry VIII. We will find out about the different members of the current royal family and will be learning about how the monarchy continues through the royal family. We will be finding out about where the Queen lives and how she is protected. We will then move on to exploring castles! This will begin with lots of drama activities based on how William the Conqueror was crowned King after the Battle of Hastings. Then will find out about how he began building strong castles to keep England safe. We will learn all about how castles changed and developed over time as we explore Motte and Bailey Castles, Stone Keep Castles and Concentric Castles. We will be building castles and studying castle defenses and having lots of fun! This is one of our favourite Year 1 topics! In Science, we will be moving on to Plants this term. Then in RE, we will be beginning a unit on Judaism, where we will be learning about the Torah and why Jewish families celebrate Shabbat.
