Woodpeckers are taught by Mrs Barnes on Monday to Thursday and Mrs Shipway on Fridays. We are also supported by Mrs Lines and Mrs Hayden.
This term, our PE days are Monday and Wednesday.
This term is all about Plants and Castles! We will enjoy listening to many stories encompassing the two and use these to inspire creative writing, working hard to choose adventurous adjectives (and even similes) to paint a picture in the reader's head. Woodpeckers will visit Arundel Castle and learn the features of castles, understanding how these are built to be defensive structures. We will cover the Battle of Hastings and learn more about King Harold and William the Conqueror. In Science, we will be setting up an investigation to explore which conditions are needed to grow a healthy plant from seed and also plant different types of seeds to compare structures. Woodpeckers will learn the anatomy of a plant and the functions of these parts. In Art, the children will be sketching flowers in the style of Georgia O'Keeffe and collage famous Kings and Queens. Additionally Woodpeckers will be using charcoal to sketch portraits. Please take a look at our Summer Term Curriculum overview, which you will find below, if you would like a bit more detail regarding this term's learning.
