Woodpeckers are taught by Mrs Barnes on Mondays and Tuesdays and Mrs Harris on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. We are also supported by Mrs Lines and Mrs Hayden.
This term, our PE days are Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
We are beginning this term with our topic on Explorers. Over the term we will be finding out about the lives of 'significant individuals in the past who have contributed to national and international achievements', such as Ernest Shackleton and Christopher Columbus, We will enjoy some theme days, where we polar climates, excavate things in the ice, and do some storytelling with small world boats and figures in the water tray, surrounded by ice and ice bergs. Then later on a San Salvador (Bahamas) day, where we will find out about Christopher Columbus' discovery of the Americas. This will involve listening to Bahamas music, dancing, digging up potatoes (one of Columbus' important finds), role playing and creating mocktails with a range of ingredients from the Bahamas. Our English work this half term will be based around stories that link with our Explorer topic. In Year 1 we do lots of role play and talk for writing, creating art work and models to help us with our writing. Some of the stories we will be looking at include: The Gruffalo, We're Going on a Bear Hunt, Meerkat Mail, Where the Wild Things Are and The Snail and the Whale. In Science, we will be looking at habitats. In Geography, we will be learning about maps.
