Woodpeckers are taught by Mrs Barnes on Mondays and Tuesdays and Mrs Harris on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. We are also supported by Mrs Lines and Mrs Hayden.
We are beginning this term with our topic on Explorers. Over the term we will be finding out about the lives of 'significant individuals in the past who have contributed to national and international achievements', such as Ernest Shackleton and Christopher Columbus. Our English work this half term is based around stories that link with our Explorer topic. We will be doing lots of role play and talk for writing, as well as creating art work and models to help us with our writing. Some of the stories we will be using are: The Gruffalo, Meerkat Mail, Where the Wild Things Are and The Snail and the Whale. In Science, we will be looking at habitats, linked to our explorer topic. We will be going on habitat hunts in and around the school and the local area. In Geography, we will be learning about maps, looking at the local area and will also be creating maps for the Gruffalo and the Bear from the Bear Hunt, practising using symbols and writing a simple key.
