November Newsletter

Welcome to the November edition of the Grayswood newsletter!

As always at this time of year, we have much to update you on and also a lot of good news to share.

This month, the children have enjoyed trips to Bocketts Farm, Winchester Science Centre, Fishbourne Roman Palace and Butser Ancient Farm, plus a fantastic Florence Nightingale workshop in Year 2. We've marked Anti-Bullying Week by looking at our school values and how we can always make sure we're kind to one another.

Congratulations must go to our netball team and our cross country runners who have enjoyed super success this past month, and also to Year 3 on a brilliant class assembly on the Romans. We were all so impressed by your singing and acting- well done!

We hope that those parents who were able to attend Wednesday's workshop on 'Balancing Emotions' found it as useful as we did. For those not able to join us, a presentation from the morning and links to resources will be circulated.

A busy December

Now our Christmas tree, kindly donated by the Haslemere Garden Centre, is in place, Christmas feels just around the corner! We have a lot of Christmas activities coming up, so please take some time to read the information sheet sent out last week, where you will find dates, times, and any particular details of key events.

Coming up first of course we have the annual Christmas Fair this Saturday. Thank you to FROGS and all the parents who have been involved in getting this ready, your organisation and efforts have not gone unnoticed. The generous donations of chocolate and bottles have been greatly received and we look forward to our best Fair yet!

Thank you

The school has been extremely lucky to receive a number of much appreciated donations from parents recently, in the form of classroom supplies and also the beautiful plants you will see dotted around.

Thank you to the Shaw family for the beautiful wreath on the front of the school building, plus the colourful winter blooms the children had the pleasure of planting.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support the school, it really is a huge help.

20% off all uniform

Our uniform provider, Clova, will very sadly be closing on 31st January 2023 due to Heather, who runs the company, taking retirement.

From next Monday, 28th November, there will be a sale of 20% off all uniform (with and without logo) at the shop in Haslemere. To take advantage of this offer, parents will need to go into the shop and purchase over the counter as it is not easy for Heather to apply the discount through online ordering. Online orders will close from Monday 28th November.

We have sourced a new supplier who will take over from February and further details will be provided over the coming months.

Staff updates

You may have seen a couple of new faces around the school. We sadly said goodbye to Sophia Wild, our School Business Manager, last week. But we are pleased to say Jackie Simpson has joined us as our new School Business Manager. We have also welcomed Shelley McGrath as a friendly new face in the school office.

Parent Governor vacancy

You will shortly receive an email regarding a vacancy at the school for a new Parent Governor. Please do get in contact if this may be of interest to you.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend, and enjoy the Christmas Fair if you're able to make it!

Take care,

Miss Cole

Yr 5 and Yr 6 Netball Tournament

The Year 5 and 6 netball team went to Park Meade School and played lots of different teams. We won 4 games and drew 1. In the semi-finals we won 7-1, but unfortunately we lost 9-3 in the finals. We all had a great time and a big thanks to Mrs Taylor as we wouldn't have been able to do it without her.

Grayswood Comes Top at Cross Country

Year 3 and 4 went to St Ives School to do cross country. The schools that took part were St Ives, Camelsdale and Grayswood. There were 8 races in total and we won the most medals. I (Arlo) won my race. I was very dirty and wet because I fell in a puddle but I kept going.

It was great fun!

Diwali Workshop

We sat in the hall and listened to a man who showed us a clip on the board about Diwali. The action on the screen looked very fun and everyone was smiling.

After learning some dance moves we got into two lines to build an arch and we told the Diwali story by dancing. At the end of the workshop we all pretended to be fireworks and started exploding! That was the best bit!

Reminders

Could we please kindly remind parents that during term-time, your child should attend school every day unless:

  • he or she is ill; or
  • our school has authorised their absence

The school requires a telephone message from the parent or carer before 9:30am on the morning of the first day of ANY pupil absence.

As detailed in our Attendance Policy, and in line with DfE guidance, Headteachers may not grant any leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances.

Please avoid taking your child out of school for non-urgent medical or dental appointments. But in such circumstances, please ensure you submit the appropriate request form giving as much notice as possible.

Finally, can we once again remind you that toys and personal items from home should not be taken into school.
