|
Welcome to the final edition of the Grayswood CE Primary School Newsletter for the 2024/25 academic year, and what a year it's been! Lots of core memories made and excellent progress in all areas. We are so proud of the children and their achievements, and thank them for being such a joy to work with.
|
|
A special mention must go to our wonderful Year 6 Kites who are spreading their wings and moving onto secondary school. It has been an absolute privilege to watch them grow and develop over the last 7 years into the inspirational young people that they are today. They leave Grayswood well-prepared for the next stage of their lives, embodying our core values of love, kindness, respect, perseverance, teamwork and forgiveness. We wish them every happiness and success for the future.

Whole School Walk
Thank you to the parents (and siblings!) who joined us for our annual Whole School Walk around our beautiful village this morning.
We managed to avoid some of the rain that fell around the area and managed to enjoy the picturesque countryside that surrounds us.
What a way to finish the year altogether!

Goodbye from our Kites
"Wow – what a final half-term it’s been!
We can hardly believe that our time at Grayswood is coming to an end, but we’ve packed in so many amazing memories.
|
|
One of our absolute highlights was our summer production, Snow White and the Seven Jockeys. It was such a fun twist on the classic fairytale – full of laughs, energy, and plenty of sparkle! Each one of us had our moment to shine, whether it was acting, singing, dancing, or helping backstage. The songs were super catchy (we’re still singing them at home!) Performing to a real audience made us feel so proud, excited and a bit emotional too!
Another brilliant memory was our trip to Go Ape. We soared through the treetops, zipping through the firs on high ropes. It was teamwork, challenge, and loads of fun all in one.
And then there was our Leavers’ Assembly. What a special, tear-filled goodbye. As we watched the slideshow of our time at Grayswood, from our very first days in Reception all the way to now, it really hit home how magical this school has been. There were plenty of tears – from the teachers, our parents and some of us too. We’ll never forget it.
|
On the penultimate day of school we ran our very own Leavers’ Fayre; it was a blast! From the Nerf Gun Alley to the Penalty Shoot-Out and the classic Name the Teddy, we had something for everyone. But, it wasn’t just fun – we were raising money too and it felt great to be in charge and give something back.
We’re so grateful for our time at Grayswood. It’s a place full of laughter, love and learning and we’ll carry its magic with us wherever we go next.
With love, Year 6"

Swallows Fundraising Success
On Friday 11th July, the Year 4 students organised a bake sale and a couple of other stalls for the charity Acts 435 (run by the Archbishop of York).
They also collected donations for the food bank and pre-loved clothes.
We are extremely pleased to announce a total of £333.35 was raised from the event. Well done Swallows!

Staff News
We say a sad goodbye to Mrs O'Rourke and Mrs Dewhurst. Mrs O'Rourke has been an integral part of the Grayswood teaching team over the last 8 years and has given so much to Grayswood; her creativity and inspiring teaching will be hugely missed next year. Working with the younger children over the last 3 years, Mrs Dewhurst has shown kindness and care to all the children and a continued commitment to the school. We wish them both the very best in their new roles and every happiness and success for the future.
In September, we welcome Miss Wylie (Year 3 Class Teacher), Miss Fairhurst (Year 4 Class Teacher on a Thursday and Friday), Mrs Dinning (part time Reception LSA) and Mrs Trask (Lunchtime Supervisor). They are all very excited to be joining the team and we very much look forward to working with them.

Good attendance is not just valuable, it's essential. Good attendance promotes good outcomes for pupils and provides them with the very best opportunity to reach their potential.
We regularly track the attendance for each child and communicate with parents where any concerns may be emerging. The government class attendance below 90% is as 'persistently absent' and under 50% 'severely absent'.
The percentage attendance figures for each class as a whole in June are:
|
1st. Kites - 98.75%
2nd. Robins - 98.28%
3rd. Kingfishers - 97.08%
4th. Swallows - 96.03%
5th. Woodpeckers - 95.63%
6th. Wrens - 95.4%
7th. Swifts - 94.56%
Well done Kites on topping the leaderboard for your final month with us here at Grayswood!

Just to remind parents/carers of our attendance policy. If you take your child/children out of school without authority for 5 or more days (which do not have to be consecutive), then the following will apply:
1. If you have not incurred a penalty notice relating to this child/children in a rolling 3 year period since 19 August 2024, then the penalty notice will be charged at the rate of £160.00, per parent/carer per child, if paid within 28 days. This will be reduced to £80.00 if paid within 21 days of receipt of the notice. Failure to pay the Penalty Notice will result in Surrey County Council considering legal proceedings against you in the Magistrates Court.
2. If you have incurred a penalty notice relating to this child/children since 19 August 2024, the rolling 3 year period will be activated from the date of the first penalty notice and the second penalty notice will be charged at the flat rate of £160.00, per parent/carer per child, if paid within 28 days. There will be no reduction for payment within 21 days. Failure to pay the Penalty Notice will result in Surrey County Council considering legal proceedings against you in the Magistrates Court.
3. If you have incurred 2 penalty notices relating to this child/children in the rolling 3 year period since the first penalty notice was issued, then you will NOT receive a third penalty notice – Surrey County Council will have no option but to consider a prosecution, per parent/carer per child, in the Magistrates Court under s 444 Education Act 1996.
Surrey County Council is not responsible for authorising pupil absence and therefore cannot withdraw any Penalty Notice requests without the written permission of the Headteacher.
